Welcome to the rush hour, your daily dose of pop culture for your rush hour ride, buckle up and enjoy the drive with your host standup comedian, Dave Neal. Good morning, everybody. It's hump day, September 25th, 2024. And we've got all of your entertainment and pop culture news in one place on this morning's rush We hear from travis kelsey on why he's had an early season slump Is it taylor's fault plus deal hugely reacts to janet jackson shading kamala harris?
And Katie Bigger, winner of Zack's Season of the Bachelor, explains why she never wanted to become a full time influencer. Plus, an update on Disgraced Dancer Artem from Dancing with the Stars. He will not be charged with a crime. He has a statement released by the judge. by his lawyer, plus Chabalrone weighs in on why she won't be endorsing a political candidate and Diddy updates.
Some folks say they may, there may be political leaders involved in his mess. Oh yeah. And my thoughts on last night's week two episode of dancing with the stars, all those stories and more coming up next on the rush. All right. Why don't we start with a dancing with the stars update from last night's week two.
We said goodbye to Anna Delvey and also to Tori Spelling. It was a double elimination. Uh, but, uh, here is the, probably the best, or I should say, most real response you're ever going to hear from a celebrity. This is what Anna Delvey had to say after she was eliminated. She was, she was asked, what are you going to take away from this competition?
And she goes, nothing. Look, I mean, love her or hate her. And most people are going to say, hate her. Uh, she is a very unique personality and, uh, you know, I was talking to my wife about this. I don't even, I still don't know where Anna, Anna Delvey's from. I don't even think that's her real name. Is she a German heiress?
Is she Russian? I have no idea. But. I want to say she tried her best, but even that I'm not sure. Either way, she's gone. Tori Spelling, on the other hand, actually was doing pretty good, all things considered, but didn't get enough votes to stick around. And interestingly, Jen Tran, Bachelorette, got the first dance of the night.
Whenever someone's getting the first dance of the night, It's my opinion that it's one of the best dances. You know, they like to lead with a strong dance and she delivered a Joey grass a day, also crushed it. Bachelor Joey. They did fantastic. I'm a big fan of Steven and Doris, the pommel horse Prince. Uh, I want him to win.
Do I think that's going to happen? I don't know, but Hey, he's an Olympian. He's smart. He's hardworking. So that's who I'm rooting for. But all in all, it's a pretty good season. Um, and you know, these first four or five episodes. Probably not going to be too many surprises on who gets voted out. Uh, dark horse would be Damian and Dola.
He's not really good yet, but again, wide receiver pro athlete. He's going to figure it out. So there's my thoughts on dancing with the stars. And should we jump into the Artem story? I was going to cover this later, but why not? We're covering dancing with the stars. Artem Chigvintsev will not be charged in his domestic violence arrest.
So. As you guys know, we've been covering this. Uh, he was Caitlin Bristow's professional dancer. I believe, right. Caitlin's professional dancer when she won the mirror ball trophy several years back. Well, he was arrested by police because they showed up to his house and saw physical signs of injury. On his spouse.
She has since filed for divorce. He initially called 911 to say she was throwing shoes at him. Well, Artem will not be prosecuted after his arrest on suspicion of felony domestic violence. Napa County district attorney, Allison Haley announced. Tuesday, her office declined to file criminal charges against the Dancing with the Stars pro in connection with last month's arrest.
Prosecutors say they decided not to pursue criminal charges after reviewing the investigation and evaluating all the evidence. The district attorney says her office did not feel it would be able to prove. Beyond a reasonable doubt, Artem committed a crime, though prosecutors left the door open for possible criminal charges in the future if new facts or evidence become known.
Here's what Artem's attorney, Dmitry Gorin, had to say. Mr. Chevintsev, you're fired. Has maintained his innocence from the beginning. He is grateful that the district attorney accurately assessed what took place and determined he would not be charged. He enjoys tremendous support from the community and requests privacy for the pending divorce matter.
He loves his son, wants the best possible for him, and looks forward to the next chapter in his life professionally and as a father. Well, look, I'm as confused as anyone else's as to what actually went down there. It's really up to them to decide if they want to talk, but, uh, interesting stuff that that is the update.
Okay. Well, how about an update from Taylor Swift's boyfriend? You know, Travis Kelsey, he dabbles in professional football. He's one of the greatest Titans to ever play. And he's also been accused of having.
What's, what's going on in your head as the game is unfolding and, you know, Pat tried to go to you twice early on with some incompletions on the interception. And then. You only have one catch, like what's going on in your head as this game is unfolding? Well, there's a lot of things that have to go right for anybody to get the ball, you know, outside of our running back where you're literally just handing it to him.
If you, if you want to catch the football, one, it has to be the right play to, it has to be the right coverage. And three, it has to be, you know, everybody doing their job up front and, um, on the backend in terms of running the routes to, for everything to kind of match up and, and be in sync. And, you know, it's just, for whatever reason, these past two games, it hasn't, Gone that way for me and that's football man.
I'm not about to sit here and get frustrated about it I used to get really really pissed off and Almost lose my cool a lot of the time from not having that success knowing I demand that out of myself And I demand you know that I just like to play the game to the To such a high level of accountability that it's just, it's, it's tough for me to, to deal with being mediocre or having stats that represent that now, as you might remember last year, I believe during the playoffs or late in the season, he, he bum rushed was the Super Bowl.
He bum rushed his coach and yelled at him to the point where the coach fell over and they had a heated exchange. So yeah, I mean, your emotions can be can get the best of you. Taylor's advice, shake it off. Okay, folks, let's just move it on here. Uh, this is actually a sad story. This, this is the type of story you don't want to have to give.
Busta rhymes. The rapper, um, is speaking up on behalf of a man who he says was. potentially innocent, and he was, I guess, due to be executed in Missouri. Well, it's a wild story. Busta Rhymes is going to bat for a Missouri man who's scheduled to be executed later today. But hip hop's Dungeon Dragon insists the state's ignoring evidence as time runs out.
Here's what Busta had to say. Good day, everybody. This is Busta Rhymes. And I just wanted to do my part in making sure that this story, you know, this news story stays at the top of the news cycle. Boom. And if we keep shining a light on this case in Missouri, because a potentially innocent man named Marcellus Williams is scheduled to be executed in a couple of hours, there's new DNA, new evidence, and, um, just a string of just new presentation that are based on facts that confirm that this man is not linked to this crime and we have to make sure that the courts do their due diligence.
And just, you know, give this man an opportunity to not only be saved, but to prove his innocence. I mean, this is wild that we need celebrity endorsements for this type of thing. Kudos to Busta Rhymes for that. I actually remember meeting a man years ago who had a documentary about being wrongfully convicted.
He, uh, was serving a life sentence and was able to eventually get Get it overturned due to new technology, proving his innocence. I mean, imagine, imagine all of the crimes that took place before police body cam footage, as far as people being framed or people being arrested or, or abused or whatnot. Now imagine all of the death penalties.
that have existed in our country, the land of the free, which by the way, has the highest incarceration rate per capita, like more than any first world country. And how do we let this happen? Where possibly innocent men are I don't know if it's a murder, killed on death row. Well, here was your update. This video was from yesterday as a 5 15 PM Pacific time.
The state of Missouri followed through with the execution by lethal injection in Marcellus Williams was pronounced dead at 6 10 PM central time. I know it's a sad story, but it's not the only one all too often. It's like, what's going on here when nobody wants to see you? this to happen. So as was tweeted, the prosecutor asked for Marcellus Williams conviction to be vacated, but he is still scheduled to be executed next week.
Despite DNA evidence. I'm so tired of having to fight for innocent black lives, but I'm even more tired of losing them. That was from Angel Jones PhD from last week. And of course she lost them. The innocent project even spoke about, uh, this Missouri governor denies clemency to Marcellus Williams Williams.
Uh, Missouri Governor Parson denied clemency to Marcellus Williams and, um, the governor's decision ignores the widespread support for clemency based on serious doubts about the integrity of Marcellus conviction and death sentence. I mean, why? Like, what's the rush to To do this, if there is any doubt whatsoever, the Missouri Supreme Court rejected a request to cancel Marcellus's execution so that a lower court could make a new determination about the trial prosecutor's improper removal of black prospective jurors on the basis of their race.
The victim's families has made clear they oppose Marcellus's execution in the St. Louis County prosecutor moved to vacate his conviction. Well, sad story. Not much of a happy ending there, but I think it's worth discussing. And in other bizarre times, Kamala Harris's, uh, Arizona campaign office had gunfire damage last night.
One of Kamala Harris's campaign offices in Arizona was shot up overnight. The Harris campaign's Tempe office was damaged by gunfire. Just after midnight Tuesday, only days before the VP is scheduled to return to Arizona for a big rally. These are the times we live in folks. Okay. I've got some more stories.
Hopefully the mood can improve a little bit. We'll be back with more right after this. I've got your P Diddy update. Ashton Kutcher is grilled over Diddy's parties in a resurfaced interview. As you guys know, the floodgates are opening up for the, I guess, public trying to figure out who may have been at these P.
Diddy freak off parties. Well, Ashton Kutcher's friendship with Diddy is raising eyebrows after this old interview clip resurfaced where the actor expertly dodged questions about attending the rapper's notorious parties. Diddy party stories, they're our favorite genre of anecdote. Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Wow. Okay. I've got a lot. I can't tell. So, um, I can't tell that one either. I mean, like actually cycling through them. All right. So whether, you know, there's any, um, complicit nature between celebrities, maybe some snitching might go down, who really knows, but I can tell you this. The. Former bodyguard of jailed rapper, uh, P Diddy, uh, says politicians are in taped freak offs and says this is bigger than Diddy.
Here's what he has to say. But all this is bigger than Diddy. It's bigger than Diddy, bro. Cause you know who else they was doing investigation on during that whole time period? It was the mayor and the politicians in New York City. They turn around, give him the city, the key to the city. All the mayor people that he brought on here in New York city are all resigning.
Yeah, you know what? Don't give the key to the city to guys who hold freak offs, you know? So either way, they're comparing a Diddy's story to possible like Jeffrey Epstein, where there might be a lot of evidence that incriminates a lot of people, uh, we'll have to see how it all plays out. Although I'll tell you this, uh, some folks think there's more to the story.
Al B. Shore is the name of the man who calls for an investigation into death of Diddy's ex, Kim Porter. Uh, so in a cryptic Instagram post the nineties Hit Maker and Former Flame of the Late Model actress suggests her death was not from natural call causes and cause for an investigation. So his given name is Albert Joseph Brown.
He goes by Al B Shore and he detailed what he says was the work of multiple individuals surrounding Porter at the time of her death from Lobar pneumonia in the four posts on Instagram, which featured images of the former couple and pages from her memoir. Browne refers to Porter's 2018 death as a tragic murder.
In a nutshell, Kimberly was allegedly taken from us because she was set on course to accomplish what Mrs. Cassie Ventura did by igniting the bonfire which brings us here today. In his call for a probe by authorities, Browne suggests that everyone who was around Porter's home could have been killed.
Particularly, any publicist should be questioned by law enforcement as he accuses them of a conspiracy to prevent Porter's book from being published. He alleges this involved swapping the pages of her manuscript with others so that inflammatory details were never published. Brown claims he learned of what Porter intended to include in her memoir from frequent and intimate conversations in her selfless attempts to save my life.
All right, I mean, who knows? She was found dead in her home in Toluca Lake in 2018 after days of flu like symptoms. Symptoms. The coroner initially listed porter's cause of death as deferred, but later changed it to Lobar pneumonia. Porter dated Combs sporadically through 2017. In addition to the three children, she and Comb shared Christian Combs and twins, Delilah and Jesse Combs.
Porter had a son, Quincy, John Brown with Brown. Okay, so I mean tragic stuff that she died. I didn't even know this part of the story. Will there be any link? I mean, I don't know how you can fake pneumonia or anything like that, but hey, this is what happens when you're in the hots. is that anything that might come off strange will be sort of analyzed.
And from the wild world of Diddy to the, uh, to the world of Bachelor Nation, we've got Katie Bigger. She won, uh, Bachelor Zach shall cross his season. And she talked about going back to her regular job after being on the show and, you know, taking influencer opportunities on the side. Here's what she had to say on the more than podcast.
My friends before the show were like, Katie, you're never going to have to work again, blah, blah, blah. Like all this stuff, you're going to be an influencer. And I looked at them. I was like, no, I worked too damn hard for my degree. I will be working. Sure. If I do some influencing, it's fun and I can make some fun with it.
Ultimately, like if I do make money as an influencer, I can help my mom out. I can help my brother out. I can pay for my school loans. I can get a safe car that's on the road. Like, it's not like, Oh yeah, I'm going to be an influencer. I can't wait to buy a Chanel bag and all this stuff. It's like, it's never was about that.
Like I am on this TV show to genuinely find love. And look, I mean, look, you know, it's kind of like a false dichotomy, right? I mean, you can be on it to find love and also cash in on the windfall of opportunities that come from having a bigger following. And I know she's not saying, I mean, she's, she loves what she does.
So do it. There's plenty of people like Michelle Young who were really burnt out from being a teacher and she was like, well, I don't want to go back to that. That's okay too. I really think. No matter what you go on the show for, it doesn't mean you're there for the wrong things if you decide to spin being on the show into other opportunities.
I mean, the people that work on the show from the sound guy to the producers to the PAs, they're all getting paid. So use that clout you earned from the show and do with it what you must. I don't care. Uh, I also don't care that Ellen DeGeneres has a new Netflix special out, although they're, the, the, the reviewers are not too kind of it.
Listen, stand up comedy's hard. Now, Ellen DeGeneres has been a stand up comedian for years, but I kind of feel like the more, the, the less stand up grind you're doing, the harder it is to be relatable. You know, comedy's all about relating to your audience. What does Ellen DeGeneres have that's relatable to her audience?
Anyhow. The title of this review says Ellen DeGeneres is unapologetic, unrelatable, and totally insufferable in her new Netflix special. So yeah, there's never been a stand up special more aptly named than Ellen DeGeneres four year approval, which dropped on Netflix. It's one of the weirder stand up shows in recent memory.
Half observational punchlines, half closing argument in a trial featuring Degeneres as her own defense attorney. Neither half works on its own. Taken as a whole, it's an exhausting mess. Yeah. Let me tell you something. You never want your comedy being referred to as an exhausting mess. I remember the days I used to always want to be on the Ellen Degeneres show.
I loved the energy she'd bring to the show. I I thought it was a blast, but the more you find out from people, she just wasn't kind to the people she worked with. In fact, you hear a lot about the same thing, uh, with regards to, um, James Corden, that they're so great on camera, but they're a real pill to work with.
Whereas, you know, Conan O'Brien. You know, people said he was hard to work with, but that's because he kind of demanded excellence. And I think that's a little different than maybe, maybe what was going on with Ellen, because of course, I mean, she was like soft canceled, like enough people spoke out and was like, no, she's really bad that she kind of like lost all of her opportunities, wild stuff.
Uh, indeed, uh, you can go watch. Her show or her new standup special on Netflix, if you want. Well, Chapel Roan has a meteoric rise to fame, and she's now clarifying her stance on not endorsing a presidential candidate. She said, actions speak louder than words and actions speak louder than an endorsement.
Here's what she had to say. People to use critical thinking skills, learn about what they're voting for, learn about who they're voting for and ask questions and it's being completely taken out of context. There is nuance to what I say in interviews, and I think it's important that people use critical thinking.
I think it's important for me to question authority, and question world leaders, and question myself. Question my algorithm, question if some person that tweeted something about someone else is even true. It's important to question because that's how I think we move forward. You know, I couldn't agree more with Chapel Roan here.
Uh, I could tell you who to vote for. I could tell you who I'm invo you know, vo and, and maybe I will, but none of that matters. Because in the end, it's not like, it's not really, like, you shouldn't listen to me. You know what I mean? You should listen to the skills that Chappell's talking about, critical thinking.
If I can ever teach my son anything, it's like, to, yeah, it is to question authority. It will be to wonder what someone's motivations are for what they're saying and tried, you know, like, I don't blame her at all. She sounds so exhausted by all of the interviews. I, you know, Chapel Rowan is reaching the Joe Rogan level of fame where anyone who can write something about her will, because that's, that's how.
I don't know, not just journalism, but that's how anything online works in this day and age. It's lecherous. So if I, if I, if I, Dave Neal were at the level of fame that Joe Rogan was or Matt Reif or Chapel Rhone, everything I say would turn into a headline. And it sounds exhausting. I know I am annoyed by in my own niche audience to the point where I'm just trying to become more insulated and protecting my mental health, because you just can't argue with all of the little hate that all the little wildfires that burn around you.
So I understand what she's saying. And if anything, if I could give advice to Chapel Rowan, maybe she's a listener here, in which case we love you, Chapel. Uh, but if I could tell her anything, it's just. Really have someone take your phone. Keep on being a creative. genius and worry about that because you're not going to be able to, uh, you're not going to be able to sway these, um, these, these haters.
They're, they're, they're on a different plane from you and you're a rocket shooting off to the moon. All right. We'll be back with more content right after this. All right, let's get into the beef that involves Janet Jackson. She made comments saying she heard that Kamala Harris actually had a white father, which, which of course is like, really easy to disprove that, that conspiracy.
Well, now people are saying they understand why she's got a bone to pick with Kamala Harris. It's because of the, uh, Michael Jackson trial comment. Now, this was from, uh, From a long while ago, uh, but Janet Jackson's issues with Kamala might go further back than the presidential campaign. The Democratic nominee's past commentary about Michael Jackson's child molestation trial is resurfacing.
Again, this is about a 20 year old clip here of Kamala Harris. In general, uh, the child will be able to. to recall and recollect with some detail the incident. And that is persuasive to a jury, even if it is the only testimony that is available. All right, there it is. And that's all we have for the clip there.
Uh, but that resurfaced. Now you have DL Hughley questioning the malicious intent behind Kamala Harris race question. Uh, Janet's race. Do you think with someone with the platform that Janet has, do you think it is irresponsible for, uh, Uh, someone of that caliber to repeat information that they have just heard.
Janice said, I just heard it somewhere. Is that dangerous? And is that your response? Well, I think the caveat is for me particularly, I just had to make an apology, uh, to the vice president at the DNC because I too was trucking in misinformation. Uh, and, uh, I think that it is very dangerous, but I think that it's more insidious than that.
I think it's easily provable to decide to determine whether her father is black or not. Interesting that he says it's insidious. Uh, and yeah, I mean, I think some people are woefully ignorant. You could call that insidious, or maybe there's a greater reason why Janet Jackson isn't willing to maybe be educated on the subject.
I mean, this is the same thing like Obama's birth certificate, the whole birther issues from years ago. It's like, look, this stuff has been, Proven time and again to be like just nothing but a, a vacuous conspiracy theory and D. L. Hughley at least had the gumption to go to the DNC and admit, hey, he was wrong.
He believed misinformation and he owned up to it. And I think that's good to be able to say, hey, I'm owning up to it. You know, there's a lot of powers to be out there that share a lot of stupid information online. You know, one of which is this new, uh, Artificial intelligence post. It's going around Instagram stories and Facebook stories.
Uh, whenever anyone shares these things of small piece of me dies inside, it's one of those like copy paste things that says like, I don't give Facebook the right to use AI, uh, to generate content off of my image and this post hereby, uh, allows you to know that, you know, and it's like, it's whole PS. It's all BS.
Whenever I see people do that, a small part of me dies. Uh, well. I'm really living today because it's hump day and we are halfway through the week. I have shows tonight and tomorrow night, and I think like the next three or four nights in Nashville. So go to my Instagram account, D Neal's to see those shows upcoming October 1st.
