Welcome to the Rush Hour. Your daily dose of pop culture for your Rush Hour ride. Buckle up and enjoy the drive with your host, stand up comedian, Dave Neal. Good morning, everybody. Happy Hump Day to you. It's Wednesday, December 11th. 2024. And these are the news stories of the morning. We've got a bizarre conversations continuing to happen around the UFOs floating through the New Jersey sky.
They got no idea what these things are. Plus the manifesto has been revealed from the accused assassin in the healthcare CEO's, uh, death that happened in New York city last week. He's lawyered up and we'll hear what his lawyer has to say about all of this, whether he'll plead guilty, innocent. And, uh, and again, I'll read his manifesto for you.
It's short plus like husband, like wife, Jason Kelsey's wife, Kylie Kelsey's a new podcast leaps Joe Rogan experience as the top show on Spotify and Apple. And also bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay fuels romance rumors with a country musician. I'll share who that is. And I'll have that story. And so much more, and it's coming up next on The Rush.
Well, we do have a lot to cover regarding the accused assassin and the CEO death, but I'm going to save that for the second half of the episode. It's a little heavy. We got to warm up to it, right? Well, let's do a bachelorette story. Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay fuels romance rumors with country music singer, as says TMZ, uh, she was seen spending a lot of time this weekend with what may be a new male companion.
Who has ties to a major A list artist TMZ has learned. Witnesses say the former Bachelorette star and Willie Jones, who collaborated on Beyonce's Cowboy Carter album, were spotted together on Friday at iHeart's Jingle Ball in Los Angeles. The two enjoyed each other's company in the Patron Lounge suite.
Oh, they're in the tequila suite. Uh, that, you know what happens with tequila? It makes your clothes fall off. That's what they tell me. Witnesses say when T Pain hit the stage, the pair got up to dance, which again, Means nothing. We all get up to dance when T Pain hits the stage. So either way, the article continues to say that they spend time together over the weekend.
Spotted sharpening at the Melrose trading post. Okay. Well, it's essentially official if they're shopping together, you know, that's how, you know, relationships are taking off when you're at the farmer's market together. You don't go to farmer's markets with friends. You go with your partner, you pick out some kale, you go over what you're going to cook for the weekend.
Uh, either way, uh, if there's any updates on that relationship, we'll give it to you. And speaking. of the relationship between Kylie Kelsey and Jason Kelsey. It appears as though the wife of Jason Kelsey is, uh, wanting to get in on some of that sweet, sweet podcast money. Our new podcast leaps Joe Rogan experiences the top show on Spotify and Apple says the rap.
com Kelsey's not going to lie. Podcast becomes the biggest show on both major platforms after just one episode. Now let me, I don't mean, I don't mean to be a downer here, but. Okay. Bye. The way that charts are usually ranked is by new subscribers. So clearly Joe Rogan's not going to have tons of new subscribers.
Cause he's had a podcast for God knows how long, a decade. So not exactly the best metric, but a great start nonetheless. I mean, look, I always say this with my podcast. It's, it's so hard to find new audiences. And the podcast app, that is partially why we're going to be going to video as well on YouTube, because YouTube is becoming the biggest database for podcasts.
Even if you like to listen, just audio only, you gotta, you gotta be on YouTube and you gotta put a quality video product together. So we're getting the neon lights. We got the 4k video. I'm going to have to get my eyebrows waxed or threaded or whatever the heck the kids want me to do. It's going to be, it's going to change the game, but here, here on the podcast app, you're going to get the same experience.
Uh, but either way, I mean, look, this is huge. I mean, Kylie, Kelsey, Jason, Kelsey, Travis, Kelsey, Taylor Swift. They really have quite the, uh, you know, quite the setup happening there in the middle of the country. I mean, this is a force to be reckoned with and not to be outdone. We actually have another football story happening here.
Uh, we covered this yesterday. Jerb, Joe Burrows, burglary, the Cincinnati Bengals stud quarterback was burgled. Is that the right term? He was away in Texas for a, for a football game where he won by the skin of his teeth, not a great season, but, uh, a, I got the nine one one call here from his model girlfriend, Olivia Ponton.
So she called nine one one, I guess in a three way call, uh, with. Her mom, and it seems as though, I don't know if she was there when the, when the burgle went down, uh, but she was arriving at his house, you know, probably to check on it. Uh, and, uh, you know, I don't know if she was living there. I don't really know what their deal was.
I think he's been keeping his relationship, uh, on the DL. Uh, but here's, uh, here's a piece of that 911 call. One is trying to break into the house right now. My daughter is there. This is Joe Burrow's house. She is staying there. He's at the football game. She's wondering what she should do, if she should be hiding, or if she should be going outside.
I wonder if the dispatcher knows who Joe Burrow is, you know, I mean, he's famous, I guess, but he's not like, it's not Tom Brady. Someone's trying to break in? Yes, she says someone was in the house. So then, you know, they take a minute there, and then, uh, the cops start talking. Okay, I'm, uh, it's, this is not X Ray 15, can I advise?
Nine x-ray 15, we do have a, uh, shattered window into the bedroom. The bedroom hast ransacked, so there it is. The bedroom was ransacked. And I'm guessing that wasn't from his girlfriend. That wasn't from a, a sort of pre-game, you know, sexual ritual. Uh, I'm, I'm just assuming. I mean, who knows? Uh, but, uh, wild stuff and yeah.
Uh, I guess, I mean, this is, uh, the, the who knew? I mean, did you guys know they were together? I'm not really caught up on my Cincinnati influence. Sir, uh, dating worlds, but Hey, this is your standard, uh, NFL quarterback dates, sports illustrated model. What a life, what a life. So yeah, there has been no public commenting on their situation or relationship or whatnot.
Who knows how serious they were. I certainly don't, uh, but we're going to move it on, uh, a couple more light stories. Warm me up. Here's, uh, uh, here's Wilford. to a British reporter talking about Elf being considered one of the best Christmas movies of all time. It's 19 years since the film Elf was released.
It's still one of our best loved Christmas comedies. It's actually in a big Christmas ad over here in the UK. Why do people still love it so much almost 20 years on? I think because it's, it's beautifully uncynical. You know, it's, it's a character who's, Excited by everything that's kind of mundane to us in our normal life.
It's a fish out of water story it's it's just very sweet and hopeful and and Turns out it was funny at the time as I was running around New York City In my yellow tights, I was thinking this could be my last movie. Because that was all shot on the fly kind of people, you know, people didn't really know what was happening and the extras are regular people.
And, but you know, little did we know we were making a, a movie that would stand the test of time. There it was. Yeah. 19 years ago. So Olivia, Joe Burrow's girlfriend was only Three years old when that movie came out, how old does that make you guys feel? It makes me feel pretty old. All right. Uh, you know what?
I like to share, I like to share tips every once in a while on the podcast. We're heading to work. We're trying to better ourself. Here is a behavioral expert named Vanessa van Edwards, and she's giving you a tip on how to be the most liked person in the room. If you set out to like more people, you become more likable.
Dr. Van Sloan, he wanted to know what makes popular kids popular. Why is it that some kids across these grades and ages are really popular? He had all the kids ranked across all these schools. He had them looked at traits, and then he guessed what made the popular kids popular. Were they more athletic?
Were they more attractive? Were they funnier? Were they smarter? What was it? The most popular kids had the longest list of people they liked. So when he asked, one of the questions of the survey was, Who do you like? They had the longest list. And when he looked at their day to day, they had micro moments of liking.
They would go down the hallway and be like, Hey, Chan. Hey, Chelsea. Hey, Sarah. They liked so many people and that in turn made them more likable. This showed me that being likable is in our control. Being likable means you have to be first liker. If you set out to like more people, you become more likable.
And that was a really big shift for me because for so long I thought it was all about me. It's a very selfish way to be, right? I was like, I better be impressive. I better be funny. But actually what makes us likable is just liking as many people as possible. Now I love, I love this conversation because you could look at it in two different ways.
You could look at that as very self serving. Like I'm just going to go out there and, and do this and, and, you know, give to people because they're going to give. To me in return, but regardless of the way you look at it, I can understand the chemistry there will lead to you being a better person because you stop getting in your own head and you just start, like, I always tell people this, if you're having a bad day, find a way to do something for somebody else, find a way to help somebody else, just be of service to the world that we live in and.
It'll make you feel a little bit better. And if that's selfish, then so be it. Right? Um, so that's my way of telling all of you guys, you're my favorite audience member ever. Um, so let's get us some more audience members. Why not? Let's, uh, we double it. Can you tell all your friends? Um, but either way, this is interesting stuff.
And by the way, if. If you do want to have a good day and do want to give, we have our, uh, single mom, Christmas wishlist. Uh, we'll be posting a few more voicemails with that. As we wrap things up this week, uh, we're going to basically try to make sure people have got, uh, the presents they need ready under the Christmas tree wrapped and good to go.
So that's our goal. But yeah, I, I find it interesting. This, this idea of, you know, it's like, I kind of feel like some smart people get in their own way. And by that, I mean, people that they overanalyze every situation, perfections, the enemy, a good, but a lot of perfectionist, or even, I mean, a lot of people with ADHD, they, a lot of, you know, people with whatever, whatever your ticker is.
We have this idea, this main character, uh, star of the show syndrome, which Where we think everything else matters. And I tell you, I tell you what, I'm, I'm approaching 40 years old. And my hope, my whole goal in life is just to dance. Like nobody's watching, get that subconscious thought out of your head.
You look stupid. You know what I mean? That's what it comes down to it. I feel like to truly be popular, not on some surface level is to be authentic. And when you can be authentic. Vibe with that. I've always loved the friends that make my wife's guard come down because I know that, that, you know, my wife, she loves a lot of my comedy friends.
Cause they'll say crazy things and they'll just, they're just being yourself, but she comes from a world where she's had, you know, some friends that maybe people are, you know, Quaint, or they don't tell you what they're really thinking. And then that's why people love comedy. It's like you get on stage, you tell people what you think and people trust that they trust you in that process.
And in return, uh, they give you a, a sort of higher value version of themselves. Does that make sense? I think so. We'll be back with more content right after this. Uh, okay. I don't want to be redundant with all of this UFO drone talk here, but I think it's insane that they don't know what this is.
Apparently, President Biden was briefed on it and there's going to be dozens of mayors getting together to discuss what the heck's going on. Well, here is from a, this was posted on Fox news, but this is from some congressional hearing. I don't even know what this is from, but it was someone talking about having drones following a Coast Guard boat yesterday.
I Last night I was on the beach in Island State Park, uh, in Ocean County with the, with the sheriff. Um, he's, he has been working it every single night. He's got his own, uh, tethered drones chronicling. One of his officers two nights ago saw 50 drones come in off the ocean. So we thought maybe they'll replicate it.
They didn't, but we thought it was a possibility. I then last night, we had a number of other people there, including a commanding officer from the, from the coast guard who said that one of their 47 foot, um, motor lifeboats was followed by between 12 and 30 of these drones as they went, um, through the water.
Through the water. Now, do they mean the drones went through the water? Now, now I'm confused. You know, there's a lot of theories that these drones are part of some underwater alien base. Some people said, are they coming? Are they going? I have no idea. I don't know what's going on here, but either way, I just think it's fascinating.
All we have are bad camera videos of this. Can we crowdsource some money to get a helicopter in the sky? Uh, here we have the New Jersey mayor, a New Jersey mayor speaking out about the drone invasion. What do you think is going on, mayor? What do you think this is? Well, to be intentionally a little inflammatory, the state of New Jersey has been invaded by drones.
The question and the problem and the nervousness is by who? Because they are everywhere. There are hundreds of these things. I have, I have friends up and down the state, they're reporting down the Jersey shore and southern counties, Cape May, all the way up into Sussex County, the length of the state, they're reporting that there are drones everywhere.
Now. I, wouldn't this be horrible if this was all some sort of publicity stunt for a movie coming out. It doesn't seem to be the case. I mean, the drones are loud, um, uh, but they're, they're kind of moving slowly. They're the size of SUVs. Now, the question a lot of people have is, well, why would these drones be, uh, you know, why would they have the same colored lights that you have on airplanes, even if they're not airplanes, who knows?
Who knows, but I mean, when we get answers, I'm going to bring them to you. All right, let's go to the accused assassin of the healthcare CEO, Luigi Mangione. He's got an attorney. Here's a clip of the attorney speaking out for the first time about what's going down. Did you meet with, uh, the defendant earlier?
Uh, yes I did. And, uh, I'm, I'm, I'm pleased with our relationship. I, I think we've, uh, made a strong bond and I'm looking forward to, uh, moving forward, helping him out. Is he saying he's innocent at this point? Uh, he has in, in indicated, uh, pleas of not guilty. The only charges that we've seen thus far have been the ones here in Pennsylvania, have been Pennsylvania, and we have pled not guilty to those charges.
I haven't seen any evidence. that says that he's the shooter. So, uh, that's, uh, you know, like I, like I said earlier, and I wasn't kidding around, a couple of things. If you're going to report something, report accurately and remember, and this is not just a small thing, the fundamental, uh, uh, concept of American justice is a presumption of innocent.
And until you're proven guilty, be on reasonable doubt. And I've seen zero evidence at this point. I was also at the, at the hearing last night. I don't remember any plea being asked for or anything. As long as he hasn't pled guilty, that's all I care about. Yeah, in the Blair County case, it's just the Well, I'm telling you as his lawyer, he didn't have any lawyer of record, and as little, he didn't have any representation until I got involved this afternoon, and I'm telling you he's pleading not guilty to each and every, I'm sorry, a person.
So he says, the lawyer says that he hasn't seen any evidence that this guy's guilty. Now what's interesting, and again, I'm not here to peddle conspiracies, I'm At all. What's interesting is yesterday, the reporter on, on CNN said they were there in that pretrial hearing and, uh, Luigi, uh, responded saying there was money found in his backpack that wasn't his.
So now you, now it leads to the question, what was the manifesto? His here's what a, and I'll, I'll, I'll share the manifesto in a second, but here's what a classmate had to say about his character. I can tell you that this is one of the last people you'd think would do something like this, you know. Um, he was one of the nicest kids, most friendly kids that I had known at Gilman.
He was down to earth, he was smart, well adjusted socially. He was at least a two sport athlete. Uh, from what I can remember, and he really had everything going for him. Now, look, he had an accident, an injury. He could be on drugs. Some people said psychedelics he's he, I mean, from what we've seen, the cold blooding, blooded killing, the planning of it all, uh, wouldn't lead to be, uh, you know, some sort of crime of passion or anything like that.
It was premeditated, of course. Now it doesn't mean he doesn't have some level of mental health issues, but what's interesting is the way. That the internet is not saying that what he did was right, but understanding the frustration. There's almost two different types of people, those that say publicly, Oh, this is a horrible thing, but then the comment section, it's like, it's like two different conversations happening.
And I think it's a, just a tough needle to thread. Here's an interesting moment that was captured, uh, during his walk to his, uh, I guess arraignment. Um, he shouted out, I'm going to play, I'm going to play the 10 second clip of what he said, and then I'm going to share, uh, what, uh, what they're, they're assuming it is that he said, cause he kind of shouted it out as he, as he was being, uh, walked inside.
So he was being pushed away by the police as he was yelling. What they think he said was this is completely unjust in an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience. Um, so with all of that, let's go to his manifesto. Here's, uh, I guess the note that they're claiming they found in his backpack.
And I'll share this with you next. All right, here it is. This is the supposed manifesto. It was shared by Ken Klippenstein, uh, and, um, it's not too long. I'm going to read it to you. To the feds, I'll keep this short because I do respect what you do for our country. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn't working with anyone.
This was fairly trivial. Some elementary social engineering, basic CAD, a lot of patience. The spiral notebook, if present, has some straggling notes in to do lists that illuminate the gist of it. My tech is pretty locked down because I work in engineering, so probably not much info there. I do apologize for any strife of traumas, but it had to be done.
Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming. A reminder, the U. S. has the number one most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly number 42 in life expectancy. United is the largest company in the U. S. by market cap, behind only Apple, Google, Walmart. It has grown and grown, but as our life, but has our life expectancy.
No, the reality is these have simply gotten too powerful and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allowed them to get away with it. Obviously the problem is more complex, but I do not have space. And frankly, I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument.
But many have illuminated the corruption and greed decades ago. And the problems simply remain. It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games at play. Evidently, I am the first to face it with such brutal honesty. So listen, this is going super viral online, super, super viral. And while, like I said, I don't think anyone in their right mind would condone.
Killing. I think most people understand what's going on here and why, uh, this world we live in, which I call late stage capitalism, it's this idea that private equity groups are buying all of the homes, you know, a large percentage of people can't even afford a 400 medical emergency. It's a dire, dire time out there for people and to make matters worse.
People aren't taking care of their health because frankly, who can afford to go to a doctor? And what's so interesting about the commentary regarding this, uh, you know, suspected assassin is that it's not a left versus right issue. It's really an issue of, uh, the corporate class. You know, in the wealthy, the elite versus middle class people who actually understand what it means to try to, you know, provide healthcare for your family in today's day and age.
So here's representative Ro Khanna, who some are saying might run for president one day, making the case for how we could really solve all of this and save money if we just got medical insurance out of the picture. We need Medicare for all. The reality is, the average American is paying more than 6, 000 a year on health care costs.
And those premiums are up 7 percent from last year. We're not going to get those premiums down, we're not going to get those health care costs down unless we have Medicare for all. When we have Medicare for all, we will have 2 percent administrative fees. Medicare will be able to negotiate with the hospitals, negotiate with the pharmaceutical companies to lower costs for all Americans and provide care.
And guess what? If we have Medicare for all, every doctor and every hospital will be in network. No more of these denied claims that are bankrupting Americans and taking people's lives. So look, I have a family member who owns a company where they are forced to pay health insurance for their employees and And they, they, and for whatever reason, they still vote against the idea of Medicare for all.
And I sadly that family member just had a procedure done, which costs well into the six figures and their insurance is denying it. So it's like how many shots, how many, like, Examples do we need of the system? Just not working out. I remember when Tasha had Lyme disease and, uh, one of the, uh, one of the medications she needed to get wasn't covered by her insurance and it was 800 a pill guys, I'm not making this up.
It was 800 a pill. She ended up, we ended up in, again, this is not even legal. We ended up finding that pill, that company in India, and we're able to order a dozen of them for like 50 total. So it just goes to show. It's like. The system's not working for us. And while it's a tragedy that happened, I don't think it will be ingest.
I think this conversation we're having could actually be the type of thing that unites us all in a sort of populist way. And by that, I mean, it unites the left and the right to realize, Hey, these Executives, these corporations, these insurance companies, they don't have our best interest. They're not fighting for us.
And guys, this is a fight I've said loud and clear for a long time now, but I'm okay if people are late to the party. We welcome you. Now, here's a crazy story to end on. President elect Trump featured first lady Jill Biden in an advertisement for his new cologne he just dropped. Have a listen to this.
President elect Donald Trump posted a photo with First Lady Jill Biden on his social media platform, Truth Social, to promote his new fragrance line called Fight, Fight, Fight. The photo shows Trump and the First Lady sitting together at the reopening of Notre Dame over the weekend. The caption reads, A fragrance your enemies can't resist.
Uh, the president elect says the fragrance is a rally cry in a bottle. And quote, smells like victory. Uh, this is just the latest in a series of Trump products, uh, things he's promoted this last year, including Trump watches, uh, Trump branded Bibles, NFT cards, and more. Yeah. The Trump, uh, watches are interesting.
Cause they're going to cost a hundred thousand dollars. They haven't been manufactured yet. You know, they've got videos of them, but I guess in the fine print, it's not a video of the actual watch you're going to get. And a lot of people are wondering if this is going to be a way to sort of launder foreign money.
Who the hell knows? But what does that cologne smell like? My guess is tanning salons. I just love the idea. I love the smell of tanning salon, just like coconut. It smells like coconut and butt sweat. That's what that smells like. Uh, but either way, that's the wild world we live in. Appreciate all of you guys.
