Welcome to the rush hour, your daily dose of pop culture for your rush hour ride, buckle up and enjoy the drive with your host, standup comedian, Dave Neal. Good morning, everybody. Happy Thursday to you, December 5th, 2024. We got all the pop culture and entertainment news. In one place. And let me tell you, we are chock full.

2024 is not going quietly into the night. We have an update from the sister of the missing Hawaiian woman, Hannah Kobayashi. Plus new details from the assassin on the loose in New York city, following the murder of United healthcare CEO. Also Ariana Maddox, formerly of Vanderpump rules, discusses if she would allow.

Any cameos at her sandwich shop in a Senator grills, airline CEOs from spirit and frontier on their extra junk fees. You're going to love hearing that if we can get rid of anything in life, it is the junk fees that airlines charge. Uh, they got a lot of baggage and I'm not paying for it. Plus the vile files.

Podcasts, Nick vial shared a hilarious clip of a guest from the real housewives dissing them while accidentally on a hot mic. I'm going to play that clip. And so much more for you. And it's all coming up next on the rush. I want to first start off by thanking everybody who is sharing with me that I've made it as one of your top podcasts.

Spotify has a end of year thing. It does where it tells you your top five albums and stream, you know, what songs you streamed. And it also has your top podcast. And so many of you guys, I am literally humbled to say this have shown that I am your number one podcast. I don't care if you tell me I'm your number one, it, the numbers don't lie when you show the screen grabs.

Uh, personally want to thank Christina Finley on Twitter. She. We were number one trading secrets by Jason Tartick. Number five. Uh, you know, it's just great to see that we are sort of in such professional company. So thanks again to everybody who keeps, I mean, keep tagging me on Instagram. I'll keep sharing it.

And, uh, I really appreciate all the love that you guys have been pouring my way. Oh, right. And you know, and I'll say, and I say that because this is my second year doing the podcast. And last year we were literally on nobody's top list. I mean, nobody, and this year to be your number one choice, I know.

There's a lot of competition out there. It's a very saturated market. And I just, I really thank all of you for continuing to support the show. Truly. Well, let's go into the manhunt underway. After the CEO was gunned down in New York city yesterday, we got this information and a lot more has been coming out as far as speculation goes and, and all of that.

So let's, uh, let's play a few clips for you. And behind what New York city police are calling a targeted attack. Caught on camera this morning in the heart of Manhattan as the morning rush hour was getting underway. The victim is 50 year old Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, part of the largest private health insurance company in the country.

The gunman's face was covered by a mask and hood. He fled to Central Park on an electric bike. And this new video obtained by CBS News shows him leaving the park at 6 a. m. 59 a. m. That was 15 minutes after the shooting and it was captured by a surveillance camera on the Upper West Side. Now, the shocking attack took place early in the morning and there are reports that the victim's widow said her husband had previously received threats.

So, We don't know any, it's all speculation out there right now as to what the hell is going on. This of course was, this happened yesterday. The clip I played was from last night's evening news at CBS. Uh, but a lot of people, I mean, the comment sections of all the videos sharing it are really atrocious and that's because people are fed up with privatized health insurance.

You know, companies like this are making 20 billion in profits. Meanwhile, their job is to essentially decline people's insurance claims. I mean. And here's what's crazy. I've got family members that are still against universal health care, and they are six figures in debt. I actually know someone who's a million dollars in debt, uh, because of medical debt.

It's the number one cause of debt in our country, and it sucks to talk about. It's not a fun thing to talk about, but we spend more to get so much less. I've shared this forever. So, you know what? Is this why the CEO was gunned down? I'm not sure. And while I would not wish that on my worst enemies, this is what happens when society demands changes.

I mean, again, pure speculation, but imagine if you know, you lost the love of your life because she was denied the treatment that she needed to afford to, you know, you know, battle a disease or whatever. And this is the head of the company that is responsible. I mean, imagine what you would do. I, I, I personally can't, I would ever wanna be in that position.

Uh, but I think it's an eyeopener that most people in the United States, regardless of if you're Democrat or Republican or where you stand, most people in the United States agree that the system is terribly, terribly flawed. So here is what New York City is saying about the shooter and, uh, what they know.

What we know is that the shooter arrived at the location on foot about five minutes prior to the victim's arrival. He stands alongside the building line as numerous other people and pedestrians pass him by from video. We see at 6 44 AM, the victim is walking alone towards the Hilton at the exiting his hotel across the street.

We believe the victim was headed to the Hilton hotel to attend the United health group investors conference that was scheduled to start. Now, here's what's crazy. The conference still went on after the CEO was shot and killed out front. That's, that's how little people care about you. Just so you guys know for everyone says, Oh, my boss loves me.

The company culture is great. No, nobody, everyone's out to take care of themselves. Let that be a reminder. When you think you're taking a discount to stay with a company. Oh, Oh, my, my boss is my family. It's not. They're not everyone's in it for themselves. So no one knows, uh, exactly again, what the deal is here, but uh, People are saying look if you don't want to see a look at where humanity is stay out of the comment section His family will never be the same and all of that is true concurrently This country is so fed up with wealth That we have no compassion anymore.

We are really saying, eat the rich. That's like the nicest way I can put that. Now, I mean, when you look at it, when health insurance is privatized, the CEO and the shareholders, they, they have sort of an obligation to maximize profits, and they do that by minimizing the amount of work, uh, or the amount of coverage they actually give their shareholders.

They're, they're, they're the people that pay into it, uh, us Americans. So we think we're buying this health, this great insurance. It's like when we, when, uh, when we had the baby, uh, you know, we, we went to the stupid seminar and we said, are you sure the anesthesia is covered by our health insurance? And they go, yeah, yeah, yeah.

The, the anesthesiologist, uh, is covered under the same network and blah, blah, blah. And then certain, and sure enough, we get the bill and it wasn't covered. True. And why do we, why do we have 19 different bills, uh, for the delivery? Well, you know, what the hell is going on now? I'm in a lucky enough position where we can afford to pay it and not ask too many questions.

But when I was an Uber driver making barely minimum wage, I can't tell you how many people I drove to the hospital as an Uber driver, uh, because they didn't, or could not afford an ambulance. I mean, this is not the way. We should be living in what is supposed to be the richest country in the world. All right, again, we're going to have some, um, we'll have a little bit of levity in a second.

We'll, we'll have some more fun stories, but this is just another crazy one. Millions of Americans might be impacted by a massive China hack of us citizens. Phones says an official, this was from ABC world news. Federal authorities acknowledging for the first time, Chinese hackers successfully stole data from hundreds of thousands of Americans hacking at least eight telecommunication companies.

And now suggesting Americans who don't want their text messages and conversations stolen by China to use apps for encrypted messaging. Here's Pierre Thomas. Tonight, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee telling ABC News millions of Americans could potentially be impacted by a massive Chinese hacking and espionage campaign.

You know, and this is just one of those things, uh, at this point it's like, well, we all have tech talks on our phone. What did we expect? It's like, what did we expect? What happened? I don't know. And I don't have any answers. I, you know, if they go on my phone, they're just going to see me passive aggressively fighting with my sister via text message.

I mean, that's what we have going on. All right. The next story I have coming up is the Nick Vial, hot Mike story. You're going to, it's just funny. It's just a funny story. Uh, and then after that, we'll have senators grilling the airline CEOs. So why don't we do this? Let's take a quick break. We'll be back with Nick right after this.

All right. You're going to have to forgive me for not knowing all of the characters here in the Bravo universe, but Vicki Gunvalson, she was what? A real housewife of Orange County. Well, she was convinced by her assistant to go on Nick Vial's podcast and she went on it, but she said she wanted to cancel and either way, it was very, very bizarre, I guess, I guess they, uh, they scheduled it and she was closing on a condo, it's a very bizarre, like FaceTime call she did from a beach in Cabo.

Either way. As soon as she hangs up, uh, you can actually hear in the background, she's still talking, and talks mad trash at Nick and the crew. Uh, it's a very funny story. Apparently she gave permission for them to use the clip afterwards, uh, cause she didn't really remember what she had to say. Uh, not everything I'm gonna share here is Like clear to hear, but just listen in.

I know we love a good voyeuristic moment. Okay. All right. So at that moment, she says goodbye to Nick and his whole podcast team. And this is where it gets interesting. Okay. Bye. That was a favor to her dad because he's got seven million So good. Yes, it helps You've made him a major Um, so I don't know He'd be at the hurt idea So this guy don't network I was a guest on his show.

Oh, I know but he doesn't prefer that No, he has his own network his own show Don't think So, so just to summarize, she's like, yeah, I was told to be a guest on this guy's show. He has a big following. I've never heard of him.

Now I I'm not going to lie. I've done this so many times. You ever, do you ever do that? Where you sign off the phone with someone and you're just like not convinced you've signed off because you're about to talk mad trash about them. I mean, I do this on half the podcasts I go on. No offense. If you're out there listening.

Uh, but yeah, you know, uh, good on her for having a sense of humor and good on Nick's show for deciding to share it. I'll play that full clip with the YouTube on today's YouTube. So you can see their reaction. Uh, you know, and some people in the comment section were saying, Oh my gosh, they shouldn't have aired this, whatever.

This makes them look bad. You know, sometimes it's okay to look bad. It's like, yeah, she didn't know who you guys were. That's the beauty of podcasting. You can be a big, successful podcast and nobody knows who you are. All right. Well. We are going to share the clip from Senator Hawley, Senator Hawley, uh, uh, cross examining the CEOs of both spirit airlines and the CEO of frontier airline.

Now I've been on the record here saying, I think airlines should standardize their business practices. So, because it's like, look, if you, if we all have to get on a flying bus in the sky, we should all know what the price of, uh, the, if the flight's going to be, and in capitalism works better with. When you know what the price of, of the transaction will be.

The problem is, is so many people that use spirit, they get lured in with these low prices and don't realize there's all these fees that are attached to it. So, uh, I think we should, I think every ticket you buy, regardless of where you're flying, should come with at least one free checked bag, one free carry on.

The fact that we now charge for the check. Bag means everyone in their mother is trying to jam too many carry ons onto the flight. It's a terrible experience. Tell me what the price is with a check bag and a carry on period done. Get rid of discount airlines. If you can't afford to function in that capacity, you don't get to be an airline.

Here's what Josh Howley had to say as he grilled everybody. You're going to enjoy this one. Have a listen. Why is it that you charge different people, different fees for carry on bags? Why is that, Mr. Klein? Why, why isn't, why isn't it just a flat fee? Why is it that, that I might get charged one fee, but uh, my wife might get charged a different fee.

Why is that? So, overall, our job is to generate, uh, the most revenue we can so we can be profitable as an airline. If we're not, if we're not profitable as an, well, actually we have, we have costs and there's costs out there and we have to make sure that we're above the cost line in order to make sure that we can run a profitable entity.

Yeah, I got it. No, I got it. Here's the problem with Spirit Airlines is, and by the way, when I search for airlines, I make sure to click the button that doesn't include spirit because they don't care about the customer at all, right? That they want, they want to be the most bottom of the barrel, cheapest flight you could get, because when you look in search flights online, you're like, Oh my gosh, a flight for 42.

But that's just, that's just not the true price. Tell people the true price. Like that's the price of you just walk through the airport willy nilly. Uh, but so many people, especially like the elderly and old and people that don't know how to book flights online, they get robbed in hoodwinked. When they show up to the airport because they don't know how to play the system.

I got it. It's, I got it. Money's the answer. So you're, you're, you're in last year, you're carry on bag fees range between 15 and 99. That's extraordinary. One person might pay 15, somebody else might pay 99. How do you determine it? Is it based on personal characteristics? It's never women more. It's never based on personal characteristics, charge up minors more.

We do not, sir. What, just people who are suckers? I mean, how do you, how do you, how do you do it? Well, there, there, there is a cost to carry any, any kind of bag. Yeah, but why do you charge some people more? I understand the cost and you made clear money's your bottom line. I get that. But, but why is it that you're charging some people?

What triple quadruple the amount? Well, the length of the flight should matter in this in this as well. So yeah Yeah, but that's not this is that's not the data The data shows is we're talking about the same people on the same flight might get charged radically different prices For a one carry on bag you do the same thing for check bags Why is that right?

So just just for the record the 99 dollar charge has been reduced to 79 dollars And Uh, what ends up happening here is we want to make sure that we can get the best price to the best people at the right time. The best people? Who would they be? The, sorry, let me rephrase. The right price Are those the people who, what, I mean, no, explain it to me, I'm interested.

Who are the best people without that was the misstatement, sir. What we're trying to do is get, is get the right price at the right time. And what that also means is making sure that if someone is, if someone's on a flight that's now full it filling up and we have a lot of, as we talked about unbundled pricing and they get screwed.

So like if you, if you have the misfortune of. of having to book your flight at the end because maybe something's been canceled and you're going to get screwed. Is that what you're telling me? Are you referring? You're not one of the best people. Are you referencing just fair? I'm just, I'm just responding to your testimony.

I'm listening to you and you just said as a flight's filling up, you're going to get charged more. Not always. Sometimes you'll get charged less. Right. Sometimes. Right. But you'll never know. Right. That's the beauty of it. It's like Russian roulette. Flying on the airline is I would disagree, sir. You Idea in the world.

I would disagree. No, I You just said it's very said it. It's very transmission. We'll have it. Listen, there'll be a transfer generated and I'll send it to you with a bow on it. You can read your own testimony just now. You have no idea what the fee's gonna be ever. I mean, look, you know, no. This is the type of accountability.

We need from our government to, uh, not, not from the government, but by the government to make sure that, you know, late stage capitalism, isn't just, you know, you know, ripping people off. I mean, I don't know how else to say it. Here's a fun clip of how airlines incentivize gate agents, uh, I guess, and this stuff's going viral all over tick tock airlines chart, give a bounty to the gate agents.

To make you have to check a bag. So if the, if the bag has like one strap that, that doesn't fit into the little box thing, they get a bounty for that. Have a listen. It's just, can we just clear this up once and for all, we're all here. We're all under oath. So Mr. Schroeder, let's start with you. Do you charge a bounty?

Do you pay employees? Bounties on carry on bags to identify them. That's a that's a it's a simple. That's a real that's a yes or no I wouldn't characterize it as a bounty. Do you charge them? Do you pay your employees a fee? Do you incentivize them to go pick out bags from people getting on planes? And kick them off the flight just yes or no.

We charge them an incentive. Okay, that's a yes. Mr Klein, uh, we do not senator holly. We you don't you don't wait. You don't pay your employees We have previously, uh, sir, but we, we actually suspended that on September 30th of this year. And now what we, in order to be able to treat. All of our guests fairly and equitably.

We've actually just put more staff and supervisors out of the gate area. And they're the ones that are still making sure that everyone's treated fairly and equitably, which is the point behind these kinds of programs. But we have removed that program as a system. By the way, if I was being paid extra. To as a gate agent to take bags, if they were too big, I would be the bag czar.

I would literally be making so much money. I'd be like, ma'am, that tags too big. You got to go like, this is not a good way to incentivize your employees here. Like this, this is like the opposite of, uh, taking care of the customer. Interesting. So let's, let's come back to you though, uh, Mr. Schroeder. So how much have you paid your gate agents?

To enforce your carry on bag policy to pick people out of the line, like the chairman's video show. I mean, you guys do appreciate that flying on your airlines is a, is a disaster, don't you? I'm slightly amazed by the general attitude of all of you here. Flying on your airlines is horrible. It's terrible experience.

It's terrible. It's absolutely terrible. And your, your attitude here today seems to be, well, devil may care. There's nothing we can do about it. You know, I mean, I, I tend to agree. I think there for like human rights, there should be a certain size. Like, like no, no airline should go below whatever it is, 34 inches for your leg room.

You know, we need to set a standard and say, look, if you can't operate within this standard, you just don't, you just don't deserve to be a company working. You know what I mean? I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy, but here I am fighting for the, uh, for the rights of those that fly. All right. Well, anyhow, no wonder people are getting so enraged on flights and you fist fighting each other.

You know, we're dealing with chaos out there in the baggage world. All right. I got a couple more stories to get to. Let's take a quick break. We'll be back with more right after this. All right. As we covered earlier this week, Vanderpump rules is going to have a new cast for season 12. Uh, but what does that mean for Ariana Maddox?

I mean, she was. Really the center of the scandal controversy. Well, she spoke to extra TV about her plans, even though she won't be on the show. Well, no one's returning. Nobody's returning. No little cameos, no pop pop in, but you know, we do Katie Maloney and I do own something about her sandwich shop, two doors down from sir.

If they start filming and they need to have an argument and they want to have it over a sandwich. They are welcome to argue over our sandwiches. By the way, what a great saleswoman. I mean, I've never argued while eating a panini, you know, it's got to be very tough. Uh, you know, you argue at like a waffle house, you know what I mean?

There's just certain places where you argue, but I've never seen anyone argue at a Jersey Mike's. The food's too good. It's like, no one needs to be yelling at each other while you've got, uh, you know, drizzled olive oil on your, uh, multi Genoa salami subway, not happening now. As far as her sandwich shop goes, I would love to know if it's profitable or not.

I mean, for, for her, I hope it is, but it's like, ah, geez, who, who wants to get into the restaurant world? I don't know. I, I certainly don't. They're going to come and argue at your place. Yes. Are you disappointed to not be going back? Like, Oh no, I'm, I'm, I'm feeling great. Yeah. She's like, no, no, honey, I've made a lot of money after being cheated on.

She's made more money Uh, by being cheated on, then she probably did her whole career leading up to that. So it still sucks that she had to go through that. But I mean, how many of us have been cheated on and didn't make any money off of it? I mean, she's got a sandwich shop to show for it. I mean, being cheated on sucks, but you know, if you can get a nice chicken parm out of the deal, why not?

Alright, uh, News Nation had, uh, Hannah Kobayashi's sister on to discuss, and again, she was the missing Hawaiian woman. She was seen, I guess, uh, or reported to have, uh, walked on foot to Mexico across the, uh, border, uh, but the sister's saying not enough is being done, uh, to sort of locate her. Do you have any idea why Hannah is staying silent so long?

I've said this from day one, I, I feel like she She's in danger. I feel like this is completely out of character for her. I've known her my entire life. She's been one of my best friends, especially after, you know, if she had seen what happened with my my father and his passing, she would have definitely reached out right now.

Sydney, we all learned yesterday with the news conference that Hannah had crossed on foot, um, seemingly by herself of her own volition into Mexico. When did you and the family learn about that detail? We learned the same day that the public did. LAPD also has not released any footage to the family at all to, they're basically just determining that this is my sister.

I just, I want her to know that, that she is loved and she is supported in every way she performs and no matter what she's going through right now. She needs to know that she has a place to come home to. I really hope that if she does see this, like, just Just let us know, give us a message or something to let us know that you are safe and that you are okay.

Yeah, really a wild story. A lot of people are just confused by it all. Uh, she's, I guess, considered voluntarily missing, you know, they don't think, uh, it's, there's anything nefarious going on or at least have no. Proof that that is going on. Well, we'll continue to cover that story. I've already got so many stories lined up for the afternoon rush.

I've got an update on Taylor Swift's touring schedule. I've got an update on Alex Cooper and, um, what she's got going on. I think she was interviewed by Forbes 30 under 30. So a lot to get into this afternoon. I'll have several videos for you along with a Patrion live stream. So stick around for those. I appreciate you guys again, one more time.

Thanks for. Sharing and tagging me and Instagram with all of the different, um, you know, screenshots of, of, of us being in your top five. Not that we don't value our guests and it's going to continue to help everyone grow so, uh, much appreciated. And again, stick around this afternoon, we'll have so much more because the stories, uh, the year might be ending, but the drama and gossip certainly isn't.
